How we check our guides

The facts register, primary sources, the fact-check, refresh policy, and where AI fits in.

Tax guides are “your money or your life” content: a wrong number costs a reader real money. Here’s exactly how we try to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Every figure comes from one register

Every rate, threshold, limit and deadline we publish comes from a primary source: the Income Tax Act, 2025, CBDT circulars and notifications, the Finance Act, incometax.gov.in, RBI/FEMA master directions, treaty text, or (for the US side) the IRS and FinCEN. Blogs, news articles and bank FAQs can point us to a rule, but they’re never the source we cite for it.

Every figure is stored once, in a facts register, and every guide, title, meta description and calculator on the site reads that same value. When a Budget changes a rate, we update it in one place and every page that uses it updates with it — there’s no risk of one page showing an old number after another has been fixed.

A figure that isn’t yet in the register, or hasn’t yet been checked, doesn’t get published. You’ll never see a live page quoting a number nobody has verified.

Every page is fact-checked before it publishes

Before a page goes live, every figure, rule and worked example on it is checked line by line against the official text: the Income-tax Act 2025, the Rules, CBDT circulars and notifications, RBI/FEMA master directions, IRS guidance, or treaty text. Worked examples are recomputed from scratch, including surcharge and cess, and calculators are tested against hand-worked cases.

We keep pages current

Every page shows the tax year it applies to and the date it was last checked. Pillars and calculators are re-checked at least every six months; other guides at least every twelve. We also re-check pages after each Union Budget, after the Finance Act is enacted, and whenever a CBDT circular, new form or treaty change affects an answer. Every page lists its sources. Details are in our corrections log.

How we use AI

Drafts on VideshTax may be AI-assisted. When they are, every figure is replaced from the facts register and every rule is checked against its primary source by a person before the page publishes — AI output is never treated as a source. AI never writes the short answer, the key numbers, a summary or an FAQ that goes live without a person writing or checking it first, and nothing an AI drafts publishes on its own.
