The Indian side of NRI tax is the same wherever you live: your residency status, TDS on NRO interest, selling property, filing a return from abroad, and getting treaty relief. That’s the core of the site. The foreign side of the picture — things like PFIC and FBAR in the US — differs by country, so it lives in its own country sections, starting with the US.
We write for Indians living in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, the UAE and Singapore. VideshTax isn’t written for taxpayers who live in India; it’s written for people managing Indian tax from somewhere else.
Why now
The Income Tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act on 1 April 2026. Most existing guides online still cite the old section numbers and “AY/FY” language from the 1961 Act. We started from a blank page after the new Act, so every guide cites the current section, with the old section number alongside it for anyone still searching by the number they know — see the 2025 Act.
